G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Recognizes October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Reshape the Conversation about Relationship Health and Safety through Partnership
JACKSON, MISS. — VA cares about Veterans and its employees affected by Domestic Violence (DV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). To help address the impact IPV has on Veterans, family members, Caregivers, and Veterans Health Administration (VHA) employees, VA established a National Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program (IPVAP). Implementation of the IPVAP across VHA expands screening, prevention, and intervention services and strengthens partnerships within VA and in the community. The VA IPVAP takes a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach to foster relationship health and safety for those who have experienced, used, or are at risk for intimate partner violence.
In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center (1500 E. Woodrow Wilson Avenue, Jackson, MS) is raising awareness about this public health crisis by hosting a Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Informational Fair at the Medical Center on October 23, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Atrium.
Veterans in need of assistance may contact Rose Sanders, LCSW, Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program Coordinator, at 601-519-3680 or contact the National toll-free 24-hour Domestic Violence hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
Media interested in attending should contact Susan Varcie at susan.varcie@va.gov or 601-368-4477.
