Jackson VA selected to host Valentines for Veterans Welcome Home Concert

The Platters will perform

Jackson, MS – The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, along with Help Hospitalized Veterans (HHV), will host a Valentines for Veterans Welcome Home Concert featuring the world-renowned Platters at the Jackson Convention Center on Friday, February 17. 

The concert is being held as part of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week, an annual recognition throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs to honor the men and women who have served in uniform.  The Jackson VA is one of only 17 VA medical centers nationwide selected to host a concert in 2012.  Timed to coincide with Valentine's Day, National Salute Week connects the holiday’s sentiments of caring by expressing appreciation to Veterans.

“It’s exciting for us to bring the Platters to Jackson to honor our Mississippi Veterans,” said Joe D. Battle, Interim Medical Center Director. 

The Platters were one of the most successful groups in the early rock and roll era with hits including, “The Great Pretender” and “Only You.”  Before and after the concert, Jackson VA staff will be available in the lobby of the Jackson Convention Center to provide information to Veterans about VA health care eligibility and enrollment.

“This is also great opportunity to learn about volunteering at VA,” said Battle.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm and will include several tributes to Mississippi’s Veterans. Tickets for the concert are required and can be obtained by contacting the Jackson VA Voluntary Service Office after January 13 at (601) 364-1391.  All tickets are general admission and free of charge with a limit of two tickets per caller.
